NYCCI

Burial at Sea Program

The NYCCI will arrange Burial at Sea Ceremonies of the cremains by request of next of kin.  The US Navy requires that the ceremony be befitting the dignity we should bestow upon these Americans and their dependents, who have served their country with honor.

Upon written request, the NYCCI will require the following:

  1. A signed letter or documents stating you have the authority to lay the cremains at sea. (See attached form.)
  2. Allow 2 to 4 weeks for NYCCI to organize the procession to sea.
  3. Provide flowers and camera/video if so desired.
  4. If, you would like a burial flag please include request in your letter and NYCCI will acquire and present next of kin with flag after service is concluded.
  5. Please provide refreshments (no alcohol beverages) for your burial party if so desired.
  6. Please provide a clergy of your choice or NYCCI can perform the Committal Ceremony.
  7. Please limit the number of people in your party to the immediate family (limit 10).  NYCCI can perform a Memorial Service at Peninsula Park prior to departure for committal for all others who wish to be present.

The NYCCI wishes to respect the decedent by dressing in NYCCI dress attire.  The Ceremony at Sea will be formal and performed with the utmost respect for all present.  We will try to accommodate any and all requests, but we will first and foremost uphold the honor and dignity of our military comrades.

Please contact the NYCCI Memorial Service Chairman, Staff Commodore John L. Denton at 805-985-2169 or Memorial Service Co-Chairman, Sailing Master, Robert Graab for arrangements.
